Day 05 - Rebel #BookReviewBlogChallenge

Find info about this challenge here. Keep up with prompts here.

My smaller dog and 'Rogue Protocol' by Martha Wells
The fifth prompt for the Book Review Blog Challenge hosted by Ann over at Great New Reads is rebel. Across the year of 2019, I read all the novellas in the Murderbot Diaries series. The protagonist is an android made to be a sort of body guard that companies traveling around can rent as protection. But she's become self-aware, rebelling against her protocols and giving herself the personal name of 'Murderbot'.

The series starts with All Systems Red (introducing Murderbot in all her loveable trash show binge watching self, hating humans but helping her research team all the same), then Artificial Conditions (in which Murderbot teams up with with a large research ship - ART - to go find information about a massacre that she supposedly committed that makes her a sort of infamous android),  Rogue Protocol (my favorite - Murderbot is trying to make herself disappear), and the last is Exit Strategy (which has a pretty satisfying ending).

I love this series. Martha Wells is adept at making Murderbot's adoption of emotions and a conscious build in a believable way. The characters are so endearing and they're all pretty short, so it's easy to get through! I'm wanting to see if there's audiobooks to reread them in anticipation of the first full-length novel, Network Effect, that's going to be the 5th in the series. It's coming out on the 5th!

  1. What an interesting series and storyline! A female robot and rebel - now that is something I would totally read!
